Adoro las vajillas, sobre todo las que tienen algún detalle emocionante en el diseño. Da igual que sea la forma, el material, el motivo. Lo que me gusta es que transfieran personalidad a la mesa.

Esta semana el objetivo es hacer un pequeño experimento antes de embarcarme en un proyecto muy ambicioso. Quiero pintar mi propia vajilla, pero desconozco por completo el medio, cómo funcionan los colores, cómo reaccionan las pinturas… en fin, no tengo idea cómo organizarme y aún menos de cómo trabajar los materiales.

Así que aprovechando mi estancia en Madrid, fuimos a Pinta en copas, para pintar nuestras primeras piezas. En esta ocasión me acompañó Ron, que también quiere probar cómo va esto de pintar sobre cerámica.
Pinta en copas, es un local/taller donde todo el que quiera probar y pintar sus propias piezas de cerámica, puede acudir. Te facilitan todos los materiales: bizcochos de cerámica, pinturas, pinceles, papel… y hasta te invitan a café! El precio de la pieza (que va desde los 8 euros) incluye todo el material y el horneado. La verdad es que es una opción de ocio de lo más interesante para todos los que tengan ganas de hacer algo diferente y pasar la tarde entretenidos.

Una vez escogidas nuestras piezas (dos tazas de desayuno grandes y un juego de taza y plato de té) nos pusimos manos a la obra. Ron quería pintar el juego de té para regalárselo a su compañero de piso, y yo quería mi taza para el desayuno. Así que después de hacer un par de bocetos nos pusimos manos a la obra.

El juego de té es una recreación del universo de Harry Potter. Ron pintó todo el exterior como si se tratase de una taza totalmente clásica, con florecitas y detalles super bonitos, y en vez de dejar el interior blanco, pintó una pequeñas manchas como si se tratasen del poso del té, representando el momento en que la profesora Sybill Trelawney le anuncia a Harry que en su taza ha aparecido el Grim: «Oh dear boy, you have the grim».

Por mi parte decidí pintar una taza cuyo motivo principal es mi gato Tokio, qué decir… tengo debilidad por mi gato y por las tazas… así que me pareció ideal fusionarlos.Pasamos la tarde allí, con una cocacola y un té, compartiendo el espacio con una mesa de cumpleaños. Una forma ingeniosa que encontró alguna mamá creativa para celebrar el cumpleaños de sus retoños, sin complicarse. Por supuesto la taza de Ron no pasó desapercibida, y la mía tampoco. Los niños de la mesa no paraban de mirar, y de preguntar que cuántas veces a la semana íbamos allí a pintar, y cómo hacíamos para que las tazas quedaran tan bonitas.

Después de terminar, dejamos allí nuestras piezas para que pasaran por el horno. Y una semana más tarde Ron pasó a recogerlas… y … tarán! aquí están:

El próximo paso será organizar el diseño de mi vajilla, cosa que me atormenta bastante ya que tengo el concepto general de lo que quiero hacer, pero aún me falta el diseño como tal. Lo único que se es que quiero que sean platos cuadrados. Además, para no convertir esto en un proyecto desproporcionadamente grande, me estoy planteando pintar una parte de la vajilla (platos planos y hondos por ejemplo) y combinarlos con otras piezas unicolor de Ikea. Creo que será mucho más práctico y que el resultado puede ser igual de interesante. Ya les contaré!

I love tablewares, especially those which have emotion, something magical on its design. It doesn´t matter if its the shape, the material or the illustrated design. What really matter is how the tableware communicates part of the hosts personality.

Well this week we are doing a very small and controlled experiment, before starting a huge project. I want to hand paint my own tableware, but I have no idea of how to work on this medio or how does the inks and colors works… So, basically I have no idea of how to set up the project and organize myself to do this or how to use properly the materials. (Challenge accepted.)
Since I was visiting Madrid, Ron and I decided to go to Pinta en copas, to paint our firsts pieces, and see how this ceramic painting works out.

Pinta en copas, is a workshop where you can go and paint your own ceramic projects. They bring you all the materials you might need: ceramic pieces, painting and inks, brushes and pencils, paper… and they even invite you tea and coffee. The cost of the pieces (available from 8€) includes all the materials and even the fire of it. Actually once you finish, you have to leave your work for fire it and pick it up one week after. This is and amazing way to spend the afternoon, for those who like to try new and creative things.

We choose to big, plain breakfast mugs and a tea service. Ron wanted to paint the tea cup and the plate as a gift for his room mat Kike, and I just wanted to have a proper HUGE mug for my weekend breakfats. So after a few sketches, we put our shoulders to the wheel!

The tea cup and plate, are a recreation of Harry Potter´s universe. Ron painted the cup just like a very clasic cup, with some very beautiful and delicate flowers and some tiny pretty details. And, in the bottom of the cup, he painted small leaves forming the shape of a black dog: THE GRIM!.. and just like proffessor Sybill Trelawney would say: «Oh dear boy, you have the grim».

On my side, I decided to paint on my cup a portrait of my cat Tokio… what could I say… I just love my cat and I love mugs, it looks like a good idea to mix them!

We spent the whole afternoon painting, enjoying a soda an a cup of tea. The table next to us was a «birthday-painting-party», a brilliant idea of a mom who (I´m sure) didn´t want to clean up the after party home disaster, so she took the kids to the workshop.

Ron´s cup and my mug didn´t go unnoticed. The girls were in love with Ron and his flower cup, and they just go on an on, asking how many times a week he goes to the workshop, how many cups he had paint, why he choose those colors… And they love my cat mug (but not me), and ask me how did I do to draw my cat, and telling me they also love cats, and when they grow up will definitelly will have one of their own.

When we finished, we left our cup and mug to fire them, and a week after Ron picked them up… and… trtrtrtrtrtr… tada! here they are:

Now, the next step is to organize and decide the design of my new tableware. Something that really drives me crazy is having the general idea of what I want to do, but still without a clue of how is going to be the final design.

I´m sure I want square shape plates and just a few soft colors. By other side, for not making of this a gigantic project, I´m thinking about painting the core of the tableware (plain plates and soup plates for example) and combine them with plain color pieces from Ikea for dessert plates, cups and bowls. I think it can be interesting and also fun. I´ll keep you guys informed.
