M+5: Crochet

El crochet (o lo que viene a ser ganchillo de toda la vida) no es exactamente uno de mis mayores fuertes. Es cierto que hace años aprendí a tejer a dos agujas e hice unas bufandas super lindas… pero ganchillo… en serio? ni siquiera entendía cómo avanzaba el punto.

Cuando empecé este proyecto mi buen propósito era tejerme un gorro de ganchillo. Estoy atravesando la etapa de los gorros de lana (para muestra mis regalos de navidad de este año), y quería tener uno hecho por mi misma. Me parecía perfecto para volver a enfrentarme a las agujas e intentar aprender.

Recuerdo que cuando mis hermanas y yo éramos pequeñas, mi abuela intentó enseñarnos, pero me frustré en un segundo y me fui a hacer cosas más interesantes. Sin embargo, a mi hermana Vanessa se le dio super bien… y sentí envidia (cosa que olvidé rápidamente) y lo había aparcado hasta el fin de semana pasado.

Para empezar me fui al Tiger, compré unas agujas y una lana super bonita. Cambia de color entre gris, azul marino y verde, y cambia de grosor alternamente. Una preciosidad. Ya me veía yo con mi gorro!

Así que me fui a youtube a buscar un tutorial… el tutorial menos instructivo del mundo… bueeeeeno quizás es que me pasé de ambiciosa con el primer proyecto:

En fin… cuando esto no funcionó y ya había «espeluznado» la lana, decidí pedir ayuda. Así que mi mamá vino a ayudarme y en tono todo desenvuelto me dijo «lo estas haciendo mal! es así…» y empezó a hacer la cadeneta (que era algo que ya había conseguido). Ok… ahora qué? pregunté. Y me suelta tan feliz que ella lo único que sabe hacer es cadenetas… vuelta al punto cero.

Volví a los tutoriales… y esto fue lo que encontré:

Ok… Plan C. Pedir ayuda internacional. Después de que mis tutoriales y mi mamá me dejasen en la estacada, decidí escribir a Miguel a ver si podía echarme una mano con el crochet, ya que a él se le da realmente bien. Y me envió este video:

A estas alturas, ya había entendido que empezar con un tejido circular era un poco inviable sin haber tocado nada de ganchillo antes. Así que me resigné y empecé a practicar punto sencillo y punto doble.

Aquí fue cuando descubrí que mi super-lana-preciosa era un completo desacierto… cambia de color y grosor, con lo cual ver si avanzas correctamente es más difícil que si tienes una lana «aburrida» estable y continua. Entonces…

Tejí. Des-tejí. Tejí. Des-tejí. Tejí. Des-tejí. Tejí. Des-tejí. Tejí. Des-tejí.

Un total de cinco veces, hasta que acabé con esta estupenda bufanda para gatos! Tokio salió ganando y yo aprendí punto.

Mi próximo objetivo es comprar más lana, destejer la bufanda felina, y subir el nivel de bufanda a gorro.

Es decir que sigo empeñada en hacerme el gorro con la lana bonita.

When my sisters and I were toddlers, granny tried to teach us how to do crochet… honestly I found it boring and, at first didn´t get how the hook and the thread actually work. So I found a lot of more interesting things to do. But… my sister Vanessa learned very quickly and get good at it, and I felt jealous. So, doing crochet was a kind of old debt with myself.

As usual asking for help is one of the must disturbing things I have to do… I actually ain´t very good at it. Anyhow the first part of this project was easy! Go out there an come back with wool and a hook! GO GO GO! So, I went to a Tiger shop and got two awesome hooks (one pink and the other green) and an absolutely fabulous wool. The wool have been one of the must surprising discoveries of this project.

So… let´s get this post started!

My main objetive was to crochet a hat. I´m going through the «wool hat period», (just like Picasso´s blue period, but with wool hats… you can see it yourself taking a look to my Xmas presents). So I decided it was a very good idea to start learning doing a hat for my collection! ENNNNK… huge mistake.

I started seeing online tutorials :

HUGE MISTAKE (again), even when I thought boot tutorials were the worst tutorials EVER on the internet, I must confess looking back with a little perspective, I was expecting crochet to be easier.

So, I asked for help mom, how actually almost pranked me, and then I asked to Miguel (who is -at least for me- a master Jedi of crochet). He answered back with this:

Ok… at this point I had all ready understood I was not going to reach the goal of making my own hat that day, and decided to focus on learning how the hook and thread works, and the basics like: chain stitches and single crochet stitches…

…knit, un-knit, knit, un-knit, knit, un-knit, knit, un-knit, knit, un-knit…

I tried at least five times until I got perfectly how things work. And doing this, discovered that my «awesome-pretty-fancy wool» was a living hell for crochet for the fist time… It was much more harder to see if things were going right because of the irregularity of color and thickness. For learning it would be much better to use a plane wool.

Well… At the end of the day I didn´t have a hat, but ~~a WONDERFUL~~ the funniest cat-scarf!

Tokio won a scarf I learned the basics! This is what I call win-win.

Now, the next steeps are: get some extra wool, practice a little more, and try the hat again.
